Chiropractic Care for Children: Common Cold & Flu

Chiropractic care for children can make a difference for a child with a common cold or flu.

Everyday parents are required to make the best decisions possible regarding their child’s health.

The choices and options for treatments are limitless and the brochures and promises of each new medication sound better than the last…until you read the fine print.

A common child flu medication states “Liver warning: This product contains acetaminophen. Severe liver damage may occur…”  The label continues with:

When using this product:

  • Do not exceed recommended dose (see overdose warning).
  • Excitability may occur, especially in children.
  • Marked Drowsiness may occur.
  • Sedatives and tranquilizers may increase drowsiness.

Stop use and ask a doctor if:

  • Nervousness, dizziness or sleeplessness occur.

At Asia Chiropractic the two most common questions we hear from parents are “Is chiropractic safe for my child?” and “Can chiropractic help my child?”  YES and YES! The knowledge of the doctor combined with the specificity and gentleness of the adjustment mean that chiropractic is not only safe but, beneficial from infancy throughout adulthood.  In fact, the master system of the body aka, the nervous system, is so important that it develops within the first month in utero; which means we must take especially good care of it during our lifetime.

Chiropractic for Children

Did you know every year thousands of children worldwide receive chiropractic care for childhood illnesses such as the common cold and flu?  Parents of these children report fewer bouts of illness, faster recovery time and fewer missed school days!

Common childhood infections including the common cold and flu are routinely seen throughout the paediatric population.  After reading the warning label on popular over the counter children’s medications, many parents are now wondering what other options are available.  Many of the medications are meant to suppress symptoms such as fever and cough, while chiropractors focus on finding the cause and removing the interference to help the body express itself as healthfully as possible.

Did you know that the body’s natural defense to fight infection is to create an environment where the “bug” cannot live?  This means that by raising the body temperature is actually a sign of the body healing itself.

It has been found that, “By blocking certain elements of the immune system, common fever reducing drugs such as aspirin and ibuprofen (Motrin) interfere with disease fighting, and healing as well.” (Facts on Fever)

That being said, it is important to keep an eye on the fever especially in children under three years of age and seek immdiate medical attention if the fever does go above 106 F or 41 C.

By finding the cause of the nerve interference in the spine and removing the corresponding subluxations to allow the body to express itself in a normal, natural healthy state report after report, “frequently describe rapid improvement in upper respiratory symptoms following adjustment of minor vertebral subluxations, especially in the cervical spine.”  (RIIC) The innate intelligence within the body when allowed to properly flow allows the body to function properly and at ease creating not only a state of “feeling good” but, BEING healthy!
